I would like to find a place in either South carolina or north carolina that is close to the beach but isn't in too much danger of hurricanes.

I want to work in a bridal salon i. I wouldn't mind commuting into a city for my job but i do NOT want to live there. Ideally, I want a nice classy town that has a low crime rate and has a family atmosphere pref. Can you guys help me find this town, if it exists?? Location: home state of Myrtle Beach! I'm thinking of Summerville How close to the beach is that? How many bad hurricanes have hit there? How is the economy there? Bottom line, the closer you are to the coast, the more likely you'll be hit with a hurricane.

Our economy down here is about the same as everywhere else I've read a lot of posts about summerville and it seems like a great place to live and raise a family. But how is it for single people? Summerville is about 30 miles inland so the wind damage wouldn't be quite as bad as on the immediate coast. Columbia is miles inland and in the 3 years I've lived here, we've never had extreme damage from a hurricane. Hugo was the worst we've had here and we only suffered some downed trees; nothing terrible.
